Paws Plus Training provides a variety of classes in Tracking. Tracking is the sports form of Canine Search and Rescue where dogs follow scents to an article such as a glove. Four courses are provided - Beginning and Advanced Tracking, Urban Tracking and Variable Surface Tracking.

  • Beginning Tracking focuses on the foundations of tracking and preparation for the Tracking Dog (TD) test. The workshop is a prerequisite for tracking classes. More information can be found on the home page.
  • Advanced Tracking focuses on building the dog and handler team's endurance and foundation for the Tracking Dog Excellent (TDX) test.
  • Urban Tracking is a new titling program offered by AKC. Urban Tracking utilizes tracking skills to follow scent and identify articles in urban environments. Classes offered will focus on preparation for an Urban Tracking test.
  • Variable Surface Tracking (VST) is a different form of tracking that challenges the dog and handler to follow an aged track through streets, parking lots, buildings and/or other areas away from vegetation. VST classes will center around skills needed to train and participate in a VST test.

For more information about Paws Plus' Tracking program or to register for a class, contact Jim Simmons, Tracking Program Director, at jes10501@aol.com or (804) 672-7308.

Congratulations to Ken Breeden and Pele along with Bruce McNelly and Lizzy for earning their TD titles in 2015!  In addition, 5 dog/handler teams successfully completed their certification tracks or are ready to certify so they will now be able to enter a Tracking Test. We also have 4 dog/handler teams who are ready to enter a TDX test. Congratulations to these teams!
